Starting from the town centre of Corfu or the port, if you are a cruise tourist, we are going to visit first the area of Kanoni. It is a unique location, boasting the monastery of Panagia Vlacherna and Pontikonissi, located just opposite Kanoni. Many tourists visit this place in order to take a picture of this idyllic setting. In the centre of Pontikonissi, there is church, dated back to the 13th century. Moreover, the next spot is Achilleion, where Achilleion Palace is situated. It was built by the Empress of Austria (widely-known as Sissy) in 1890, while William II purchased it after Sissy’s death. Both of them were very keen on Corfu’s history and culture and thus they managed to build a palace of great architecture that is being still preserved as a museum.
